End of Summer

To mark the end of summer we attended the Scout night at the Voyager's Game. It was a successful and fun evening even though the Voyagers lost. Blake and Zane had lots of fun with thier scout friends during and after the game. The Scouts (all ages), lined up on the field between home plate and 3rd Base for the opening ceremony. The 1st pictch was thrown by one of the scout leaders (aka Aaron W. of Troop 26) and one of our newest Tiger Cub Scouts (Deegan) got the opportunity to start the game with "Play Ball".

(Organizing for Opening Ceremony)
Blake participated in the Wet T-Shirt Contest - he almost won, still got to have the shirt anyway.

Zane decided to try the Slippery Noodle game and got a gift card to Noodle Express, i'm sure that will be his new favorite resturaunt since noodles are his favorite food.

After the game the boys helped pick up all the tennis balls thrown during the ball toss, so that they could get out in the outfield and set up thier tents. Approx. 40 Tents are set up by Scouts, Cub Scouts and Families. They then went on a tour of the Stadium and played a game of Capture the Flag, before heading back to thier tents.

Lewis & Clark

The boys got the oppurtunity to check out the Bateau that  Troop 466 from California was able to earn the money to have built and transported to Great Falls and then test out what it was like for the Corps of Discovery, Lewis and Clark used to navigate the Missouri River.

Ben P., Travis S. James P. Zane B. & Blake B. waiting for the Ceremony to begin.
I was running to camera's Blake is off to the left of Travis along with the some of Troop 466 who presented the Bateau to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center.

Checking out the Bateau, this replica was about 6 ft shorter than the one Lewis and Clark had.

Lewis & Clark Cub Scout Day Camp 2011

Cub Scout Day Camp was June 22-24th. We had an Indian Theme "Medicine River Pow-Wow" based on our new Scout Facility "Medicine River Scout Center". Sadly I didn't get many pictures as I and the rest of our wonderful staff were busy making sure everything was going smoothly. We did have to cut camp short one day do to an approaching thunder storm. Most Campers and Staff were safetly sent home before it hit, we did have a few stashed in cars till thier parents arrived. We had Approx. 160 kids (scouts and siblings), plus lots of wonderful volunteers.

Our orginal location was flooded prior to camp so we had to use an alternate, which worked out perfectly. Now we have a year to prep or orginal local for next year for an even better camp.

All I managed to get were some of opening on Friday, the weed picker, and closing. They had lots of great activities all 3 days.

100 Years of Scouting In Montana - Council Camporee

One June 18, we set out for Townsend, MT to take part in the 100 Years of Montana Scouting Camporee. The boys had fun going from station to station, they got to shoot BB Guns, Bow & Arrow, throw a hatchet - Zane went twice and actually got a hatchet to stick the second time, they cut a slice off a log and got it branded with MT BSA, tried out walking on stilts, panning for rubies, made a key chain, checked out the Navy simulator, made ice cream, craked a geod, hung out with Troop 26 and had supper with them, then ended the night with watching all the Scout Troops perform thier skits.

More Pinewood Derby Races

Blake's Car before the Races Sat. March 5th, 2011

Ok so I've been a slow at updating since the District Pinewood Derby races were several weeks ago, like March 5th to be exact. We signed Blake's car in plus a couple other's on Friday night. Dad and the boys went over Sat to watch the Regatta and the Rockets race before the Cars & Semi's. I showed up in plenty of time for the races. They had fun although by the end they were definitely ready to leave. Blake was a little upset he didn't win a prize. That is par for the course with that many entries 25 from our Pack alone.

Part of the District Line up of Bear Cars

Just a Few of the Semi's - Blake's favorite was Max's National General Truck - there was an MSU Truck, Pepsi Truck, Coke Truck, Car Hauler and more. They were pretty fun to watch.

Lined up and ready to Race. Had some technical difficulties - so Blake's car raced several extra times. Each car was raced 4 times - once in each lane and the average speed was used from the 4 runs to determine the winners.
Watching the cars race.

The Races

We had our Pack Pinewood Derby Races Monday night. I'ld say it was a success. Wish I had more pictures, had to take Blake's when I got home. We got there just in time to set up and start Registering the boys and cars.  We had 29 awesome cars race down the track. It got a little loud at the end when we were done and trying to hand out awards and certificates. But all in all it went well. Would kinda like to be on the none event organizer side so I could get more pictures - or figure out how to multi task better

Blue & Gold 2011

We had our Blue and Gold Banquet Monday Night. I video'd (instead of taking pictures)  and as part of the help didn't get many photo's.

These are kinda hard to see, Blake's Bear Den wasn't able to have den mtgs the 2 weeks before B&G so he helped make the table decorations for his Den. He picked out the letters and numbers for all 7 boys in his Den, arranged them and had me glue them on, and then I hot glued them toghether.

Here's one of the Bear Den Tables with Blake, Cub Master Robert's & Zane's Place Markers, We added 3 more boys to the table as they arrived.

Everyone Claiming thier Tables and waiting for Robert to Get the show on the Road. Wish I had a picture of the opening ceremony. The boys did a great job. Maybe I'll figure out how to post the video I took, later.

Cub Master Burton's Lead up to Awards & Skits

Blake Earned his Bear Badge and got the honor of Pinning the Parent Pin on Mom. He did so with extra care. It got pinned to my sleeve. (Special Thanks to Mr. Wiessman for the pictures).

Oh and don't forget Dessert - I made 84 Gold CubCakes and another Mom made 84 Blue CubCakes - and not many returned home with me. Yay!
